Prof. Jaya Jaise has worked with various organizations in different capacities. Her career spans more than 33 years. She started her career as a permanent Government employee at the Dairy Development Department in 1990, followed by the Kerala State Audit Department (formerly Local Funds Accounts Department) in the same year. She then joined the teaching profession at Titus II Teachers College, Thiruvalla, in 1993, and subsequently moved on to join as Faculty at the School of Pedagogical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, in 1999. Presently, she is Convenor of the CSS Academic Advisory Committee, Chairperson of the PG Expert Committee in Education, Chairperson of the Gender Justice Forum, Member of the Internal Complaints Committee, Member of the Research and Development Cell, and Member of PG Board of Studies (Education) of Mahatma Gandhi University. Prof. Jaya has held various positions in Mahatma Gandhi University, including Dean (Education), Chairperson of M.Ed. Examinations, Head of the School of Pedagogical Sciences, Editor of the Journal Pedagogics, Coordinator of Kuriakose Elias Chavara Chair, and also served as Member of IQAC, Faculty of Education (PG), UG Board of Studies in Education (in other Universities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu too) besides being expert consultant to Kerala Public Service Commission and to academic bodies of the State like DIETs, DPI, SCERT and SIEMAT. She also serves as Member of NCTE Inspection Committee as well as of Faculty Selection and Career Advancement Committees of Universities.
Prof. Jaya’s areas of specialisation are English Language and Literature, English Language Education, Teacher Education, Curriculum Construction and Development, Techniques of Evaluation and Test Construction, and Human Rights and Value Education. The Language Arts, Techno Pedagogy, Green Practices, Professional Decision Making, and Tasking Ability are a few of the areas researched under her supervision at the Doctoral and Post-Doctoral levels. Fifteen Ph.D. Degrees and sixteen M.Phil. Degrees have been awarded under her academic and research experience, while eight more are actively engaged in Doctoral research.
She has adjudicated more than 40 Ph.D. theses and chaired a good number of Ph.D. Open Defence & Viva Voce Examinations in several Universities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. She has published extensively in books and reputed journals, given resource talks and presented papers at national and international conferences, developed standardised psychometric tools for research, successfully completed the UGC MRP in Education, organised and conducted several educational programmes, and attended short-term courses. She is recipient of the Dr. K. Soman Memorial Award for the Teacher Educator (B.Ed. & M.Ed. level) for 2016 and an active member of various professional bodies in the field of education.
